My first image taken with Optolong L-Ultimate filter. Imaging train consisted of ASI294MC camera + ZWO filter drawer with 2" L-Ultimate filter + RedCat51 telescope on Celestron AVX mount, with ZWO 30mm mini guide scope + ASI120MM guide camera and used ASIAir Pro software to operate auto guiding.

A total of 128 light-frames at 300 sec exposure were collected over two nights (November 1 and 3) for a total integration time of around 10 hours. The ASI294MC camera gain was set at 120 and temperature at -10°C.

Seeing conditions were good and location is in a Bottle 4 light pollution zone. The real problem was a nearly full-moon. It was a real test of the L-Ultimate filter, which seemed to perform well, except for those awful halos around bright stars. I hated them with images taken with the L-Extreme filter and am very disappointed that the L-Ultimate filter does no better (at least in this image).

Calibration frames included 60 flats, 60 darks, and 60 dark-flats. No bias frames were used in calibration since ASI294MC is a CMOS camera. Stacking, calibration, and integration done using PixInsight Weighted Batch Pre Processing (WBPP) script. The only post-processing involved Automatic Background Extraction (ABE) to remove a light pollution gradient from the full moon.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
